The video shows the heart-warming moment when a herd of elephants come to the rescue of a baby elephant stuck in a slippery watering hole.
During the heat of the day in the African bush, it gets incredibly hot, and animals do spend more time in and around the areas of these watering holes or drinking wallows. Some are natural and some are man-made to support the animals during the dry season. Elephants love water the most of all animals and they also consume the most of all animals. Besides drinking, elephants love cooling down and playing in the water after their thirsts have been quenched. Baby elephants are the most playful in the herd and like seen in this video, they love to be right in the water. This female baby elephant thought it good to get herself right into the man-made concrete watering hole. It was playtime for a while, and she loved being in the water. Then it was time to get out and suddenly I realized that the inside of the concrete watering hole was of course very smooth, and the baby elephant couldn’t find any traction to get out. Soon panic set in and other members of the herd quickly rushed to the scene. The baby elephant was still struggling to get out, looking all bewildered and anxious to get out. It was incredible to see how the adult elephants all joined in, some helping with their feet and others using the trunks for assistance. There was a lot of trumpeting and rumbling noises going around, sounding the high stress levels of the moment. To my great relief, the baby elephant finally managed to get out with the incredible help and teamwork of the rest of the herd.
