Blindspot 110 - Conflict contagion in East Europe? Why assassination attempt on Fiko in Slovakia & Georgia protests matter (think Ukraine 2014)

As if the ongoing live-case of genocide in Gaza is not enough, hear how Lindsey Graham, US Senator, argues that it is at this stage justifiable to Nuke the Gaza Strip.

And immediately picking up on that rather light note we will, in this delivery cover quite a bit of ground to connect dots in the maze of blindspots surrounding us…

I - Russia’s Kharkiv offensive
II - Assassination attempt in Slovakia
III - EU growls at Georgia’s new law
IV - South Africa - National Hell Insurance

But, before that, interesting takes we found on the interwebs reflecting how some see Putin and Zelensky. While real war is waged, meme wars and video skit wars are also happening. Remember what we spoke about - Cognitive War? Here is two opposing pieces of evidence.

Conflicts do not, and cannot ever take place in isolation. As seen in the African environment, the current murderous conflict unfolding in the Sudan, impacts an entire population, and region due to numerous factors including flows of refugees, economic and social patterns interrupted by war. In Eastern Europe, the staging ground of the NATO-Russia/Eurasia Stand-off, is of course primarily Ukraine. However, behind the geopolitical scenes countries in the region, that hold views on the Ukraine war, or Russia, counter to those held in Brussels, are quickly painted with the brush of: Russian vassal states, Putin puppets, or being prone to non/undemocratic attitudes or behaviours. The usual. But, this is what makes events in the week since the May 7 inauguration of President Putin, and the May 9 Victory Day celebrations, on multiple hot- and cold frontlines of Western Eurasia & Cold War 2.0, all the more significant. What are these events, how could they possibly be connected, and what may it mean for the region already under severe geopolitical strain. We ask, is the blindspot here - conflict contagion?
