OT Defense Nub - Safariland ALS Holster Upgrade

Safariland retention holsters are great. They are by far the most popular choice for duty usage amongst LEO and military professionals. However, the holsters have one primary issue, and that is, that the release lever's footprint on these holsters is small and can be easy to miss. Now this may be a feature rather than a defect, if there's a likelihood of someone trying to take your firearm from you, you want the controls to be minimalist. This is most likely in LEO contexts, so the design makes sense.

However, for those of us that like to run these holsters for home defense, range use, or competition, this really isn't a concern for us. The release lever can be easy to miss, and while you can train that out with a lot of reps, having a larger slide release nub is a nice quality of life update that can help with fast draw times.

The OT Defense safariland nub is ideal for this and takes only about 30 seconds to install. The designs are model specific. For my Safariland 7390 RDS model holster, the nub is a perfect fit. Applying a few drops of super glue and compressing for 30 seconds is all that was needed to install the nub. After 24 hours dry time, the nub is rock solid.

I like to run this holster in local matches since this holster can house my Glock 34 and all my not a glock builds. The holster struggles because of its retention mechanisms when drawing guns that have compensators equipped if the compensator isn't an exact flush fit with the slide of the pistol. I'm running a PMM Glock comp on my Dagger slide, and becuase it doesn't interface perfectly, the retention on the safariland will catch on the comp when drawing. Again, this is my fault for buying the wrong comp for the wrong model of handgun and not being patient with the dagger specific comp to come back into stock. The nub lets me engage the slide release a little bit longer allowing this setup to be used with this holster whereas previously I had to use my black hawk omnivore. So if you have a compensator that gets stuck on the safariland retention then this solution may actually help you.

So the OT Defense nub making that draw motion all the simpler made a whole lot of sense for my context. It is a great enhancement to the holster for only $20. We highly recommend it.
