Living Off the Grid in the City Podcast. Communication services, such as telephone, internet and paid TV, are considered basic necessities in modern society. Communication can be one-way or two-way and is protected as a human right. However, some entities impose limits on these services, such as offering limited or no choices to those unable to pay. This can be immoral and criminal, as it limits access to a basic need. Communication technology has evolved rapidly in recent years and it is necessary to be up-to-date to actively participate in society. Communication technologies and services are necessary for the economy and social life, and access to them should be a right for everyone, regardless of their economic situation. Although some programs offer discounts or free services to low-income people, these services are limited in many parts of the world. Communication services are expensive, but people are willing to pay for them because of their importance. There are several free communication options, which I will discuss in a future book.
