What Is A Dead Bolt Lock? | GSL Discussion

A deadbolt lock is a type of locking mechanism that functions differently than spring-loaded latch locks. Today, Uriah discusses exactly what is a dead bolt lock in order to help those without knowledge of security hardware understand why they're so secure.

Deadbolts are exactly what the name implies, a dead bolt that is activated by either a key or thumb-turn to push a non-moving or "dead" bolt into place. This is different than a latch lock in the sense that there is no spring loading mechanism. Once the bolt falls into place, it cannot be retracted besides using the existing mechanisms standard for locking and unlocking.

There are several different types of deadbolts Uriah goes over in this video, including single-cylinder deadbolts, double-cylinder deadbolts, renters' or "keyless" deadbolts, and electronic deadbolts.
