Wokeness and Meritocracy (Big Joel Response) | Elon Musk, Bill Maher, Breadtube, sjw, woke expert

Wokeness. It sucks. Or does it? Usually, when I start a video like this, I define the word in question. But the definition of such a word has been subject to rigorous debate. Or what counts as rigorous debate on the Internet these days. Online progressives in the past few months have questioning the Right and anti-social justice warriors on how they define the term, but have for the most part, not received a satisfactory answer. Some say that is it the belief that certain groups in society are marginalised. But that would describe black civil rights activists in the 1960's as woke, which would be quite a self-own for conservatives. Other more concrete definitions include seeing oppression everywhere even when its not there, prioritising identity politics over everything else, and seeing everything through the lens of intersectionality. In all honesty, I am not remotely impressed by any of these definitions because they massively miss the mark and are way too vague and casts a wide net. That last part might be intentional as I will talk about later. Anyway, despite these lackluster definitions, the eloquent Libertarian Youtuber and my friend, MentisWaves has a more satisfactory answer. Quote: ' An aggressive push for diversity/equity/inclusion, usually based on the belief that outcomes which lack these things are indicative of discrimination and/or unfair social treatment". Now, the aggressive push can refer to a terminally online mob putting pressure on an employer to fire someone who had a 5 year old tweet that is considered racist, boycotting companies who aren't progressive enough for them and pushing for hate speech laws that put you in prison if you say something that is considered bigoted to a so-called marginalised group. Other components of this more solid definition of wokeness include seeing oppression of certain minorities in all aspects of society even when its false, using regressive, illiberal and anti-egalitarian methods in attempts to eliminate alleged oppression, believing in false information and ideas to further stop alleged oppression and downplaying the concerns of people who belong to groups that are considered historical oppressors such as whites and men. Even believing discrimination against these so-called oppressor groups is non-existent, not relevant or deserved. This combination can often contradict reality. Anyway, the online Left has disparaged the Right's attempts at defining the term woke. After all, the negative view of the term is not reflected in its Oxford dictionary version since being alert about discrimination doesn't highlight about the aggressive approach that woke activists have. There is also no serious academic definition for it. Many of the progressive breadtubers have taken victory laps over this, but one leftist in particular has caught my attention. And that is youtuber Big Joel. Our resident woke expert. He does not differ with the rest of the online Left in viewing opposition to so-called woke ideology as ridiculous. And he makes this quite clear in his commentary over an interview of Elon Musk by Late Night comedian Bill Maher.
