Severe solar storm threatens power grids and navigation systems

This weekend, a severe solar storm threatens global disruptions including blackouts, navigation system failures, and radio outages.

It marks the first G4 geomagnetic storm watch since January 2005, indicating high solar activity with multiple waves of energy approaching Earth.

The storm poses risks to electric grids, pipelines, and spacecraft, with potential consequences similar to past G5 storms in 2003.

Satellites will provide about an hour’s notice before impact, allowing for precautionary measures, the Financial Post reported.
