Dr. Daniele Ganser: Venezuela 2019 - A failed coup by the USA (Nuremberg 1.4.2019) (english subtitles)
The Swiss historian and peace researcher Dr. Daniele Ganser spoke on April 1, 2019 in Nuremberg about the failed coup of the USA in Venezuela in the spring of 2019, which he classifies as illegal. Ganser bases himself on the UN prohibition of violence, clearly and explicitly prohibiting the use of violence and therefore also banning coups. In his presentation, Ganser shows that Venezuela has been ruled by the left-nationalist President Nicolas Maduro, elected by the people, since 2013. According to its Ministry of Oil, Venezuela has the largest oil reserves in the world with 296 billion barrels, claiming that the reserves are even larger than those of Saudi Arabia. Juan Guaido, opposition leader and President of the Parliament, declared himself the new President of Venezuela on January 23, 2019. US President Trump declared on the same day that he recognized Guaido as the interim president. The USA hoped to be able to overthrow President Maduro through this. However, this was not successful. With economic sanctions, comparable to the sieges of cities in the Middle Ages, the USA tried to force Venezuela to its knees. In Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, the power went out on March 7, 2019 for hours. 'No food, no medication. Now no electricity. Maduro won't be here for long,' tweeted US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo during the power outage to increase pressure on Venezuela. 'The USA should leave Venezuela alone. Let the people in Venezuela decide about their future on their own,' said the US Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard from Hawaii. 'We also don't want other countries to choose our leaders, so we have to stop doing this in other countries.' Under pressure from the USA, German Chancellor Angela Merkel recognized coup plotter Guaido as interim president on February 4, 2019. That was wrong. The Scientific Service of the Bundestag in Berlin reminds us that only the elected President and Parliament have the right to declare a coup.
