TikTok has filed a lawsuit aiming to block a US law thatwould ban the app in the country - unless it is sold by its Chinese parent company.

The social media company said that move was an"extraordinary intrusion on free speech rights" of thecompany and its 170 million American users.

President Joe Biden signed the bill into law last month, citing national security concerns - following claimsthat Tik Tok's Chinese ownership raises the risk thatdata on US users could fall into the hands of the Chinese government.

But, TikTok has maintained it is independent of thegovernment, while parent company ByteDance said ithas no plans to sell the business.
