The Brazilian city of Canoas has been hit by a record flood, almost entirely under water

5/6/2024, Brazil. At least 85 people have died and nearly 130 are still missing in floods in the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. Rising waters caused by heavy rains have affected more than 265 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul since Monday, forcing more than 150,000 people from their homes. The city of Canoas is completely under water. Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva described the disaster as one of the worst floods in the country's history.
