Food Insecurity In Canada with Jim and Jacintha Collins

With the rising cost of living across Canada, hunger has become an increasing problem.
According to Food Banks Canada, in March 2023, there were almost two million visits to food banks across Canada — greater than the population of Saskatchewan, Manitoba, New Brunswick or Nova Scotia.

This was a a thirty-two percent increase and the highest year-over-year increase in usage ever reported.

These numbers represent almost 650 thousand children and many seniors on fixed incomes.

It’s now spring 2024, and some food banks are already reporting that they are hitting food bank visit levels that they normally only see at Christmas time.

The need is massive.

Joining us today to discuss the problem and a powerful solution are Jim and Jacintha Collins of Harvest Hands. Harvest Hands is a charity focusing on reclaiming food that otherwise would be thrown away and rerouting it to homes in need.

Thanks for joining us.
