The US killed a simple farmer in Syria instead of the al-Qaeda leader.
In May 2023, the US Central Command announced that a drone strike in Syria had β€œkilled the leader of al-Qaeda.”
However, even then, local residents said that a chicken coop was hit by a UAV, and in it was a 60-year-old farmer who raised sheep and chickens.
Now, as a result of the investigation, the US has admitted: "The US military misidentified the intended target and a civilian, Mr. Lufti Hassan Masto, was wounded and killed."
