Golf is not for everyone. It is expensive to get into and club and green fees can are another expense. Plus, compared to a lot of sports, golf can be surprisingly technical right from get go.

Learning to golf as kid is fun. It is an opportunity to just whack the heck out of a tiny ball without the adult stress of trying to be “good.”

Most people know that the modern game of golf that we play is based on a version that invented in 15th-century Scotland. The Old Course at St. Andrews was developed in 1574 and is still used by golfers. It is considered something of a golfing pilgrimage for golf fanatics. However, we found out that there are several pre-Scottish versions of golf that existed around the world. For example, in China there was a game called chuiwan played between the 8th and 14th centuries. There are scrolls from the Ming dynasty that shows what looks like Chinese men on a putting green.

This little girl takes that to heart and absolutely smashes the ball. But, uh oh. WATCH OUT!

Briefly, there were also golf-esque games during the Roman empire era called paganica, there was also a Persian game called chaugan. In Europe there were also golf-esque games pre-1500 called cambuca (England), chambot (France), and kolven (Netherlands). I think people have always found a joy in knocking around small balls with curved sticks. Why else would we have golf and hockey? The little girl in this video is really enjoying her first time playing golf with her dad. However, she still has a pretty strong slice that her dad finds out about the very hard way. Fortunately, she doesn’t have power yet.
