Police in Georgia fired tear gas and water cannon intocrowds protesting against a bill seen by the opposition as targeting media freedoms.

Thousands waving Georgian and European Union flagsgathered outside parliament to protest what they seeas a Russian-inspired law.

Under the bill - dubbed the "foreign agent" lawindependent media that receive more than 20% oftheir funding from foreign donors would have toregister as organisations "bearing the interests of a foreign power".
