Iran offered scholarships to students from universities in the US and Europe who were facing expulsion for participating in anti-war and pro-Palestinian protests. “Students and even professors who have been expelled or threatened with expulsion can continue their studies” in Tehran, said Iran’s Shiraz University.
The move came after authorities arrested over 1,200 students at universities across the US for urging an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Iran’s offer followed Columbia University, the epicentre of pro-Gaza encampments, threatening to expel the protesting students. The past week and a half saw students put on probation by other leading institutions where anti-war protests had spread.
