A breakthrough in asteroid detection offers reassurance against potential cosmic threats.

Utilizing innovative technology, scientists have uncovered 27,500 previously unnoticed near-Earth asteroids, including 100 that traverse within our planet’s orbit.

This achievement marks a significant departure from traditional stargazing methods, as researchers developed a new algorithm, Tracklet-less Heliocentric Orbit Recovery (THOR), to sift through archival space imagery.

By connecting dots of light across different photographs, THOR effectively identifies celestial objects and predicts their trajectories.

This approach, described as a “sea change” in astronomical research, promises insights crucial for both scientific exploration and planetary defense, the New York Post reported.
