Hatchet-Wielding Man Shot After Charging LAPD Officers

Los Angeles, CA

Video recorded on a bystanders cellphone shows a man charging at police with a hatchet. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the shooting occurred around 2 p.m. on November 30th, 2023. Officers were responding to a call for an assault with a deadly weapon.

Video of the incident shows the man walking quickly toward officers with a large hatchet in his hand. He appears to be shouting at officers as they order him to drop the hatchet.

The officers are then seen deploying less lethal weapons, but the man continues charging toward them with the hatchet raised until at least one officer fires his service weapon, hitting the man.

The man was transported to the hospital in critical condition, according to the report.
