More Computer = More Brain
The ability to simulate the brain in enough detail to carry out vital scientific research will grow
with computer power. A digital facsimile of a cylindrical piece of tissue in the rat cortex became
a reality in 2008, when speed was clocked in teraflops. As computers climb to the peta and exa
scales, the Human Brain Project envisages full-brain simulations of a mouse and of the same
species that conceived Hamlet and Einstein’s general theory of relativity.
Deconstructing the Brain
The Human Brain Project intends to create a computer simulation of the 89 billion neurons
inside our skull and the 100 trillion connections that wire those cells together. A meticulous
virtual copy of the human brain would potentially enable basic research on brain cells and
circuits or computer-based drug trials. The project, which is seeking ¤1 billion in funding
from the European Union, would model each level of brain function, from chemical and
electrical signaling up to the cognitive traits that underlie intelligent behaviors.

Molecular
A century of research, beginning
with the first inspection of a brain cell
under a microscope, would translate
into a digital facsimile that combines
component molecular parts to assemble a cell that demonstrates the
essential properties of a neuron—
the transmission of electrical and
chemical signals.
Cellular
A brain-in-a-box simulation will
have to capture every detail of
neurons and nonneuronal glial
cells, including the exact geometric
shapes of the dendrites and axons
that receive and send information.
Circuits
A model of the neural connections
between different brain areas and
among neighboring cells may
furnish clues to the origins of
complex brain diseases such as
autism and schizophrenia.
Whole Organ
An in silico brain might substitute
for the actual organ. By removing
the computer code for a “gene,”
the virtual system can, for instance,
mimic the effects of a mutation,
as scientists do today by “knocking
out” a gene in mice.
The tool would
avoid the lengthy breeding process
and could simulate a multitude
of experimental conditions.
Regions
Major neural substructures—
the amygdala (emotions), the
hippocampus (memory), the
frontal lobes (executive control)—
can be inspected alone or as they
interact with one another.

A little-discussed detail in the Lavender AI article is that Israel is killing people based on being in the same Whatsapp group as a suspected militant.
Where are they getting this data?
Is WhatsApp sharing it?
Lavender is Israel’s system of “pre-crime”
– they use AI to guess who to kill in Gaza, and then bomb them when they’re at home, along with their entire family.
(Obscenely, they call this program “Where’s Daddy”).

Operation Igloo White
Igloo White
Using the cover of darkness, dense jungle and bad weather,
North Vietnamese trucks carried critical supplies down the Ho Chi Minh Trail nearly undetected.
Since large numbers of American ground troops were not permitted into neutral Laos to stop the trucks,
the U.S. Air Force deployed a system of electronic equipment to thwart the enemy's cover and alert U.S. commanders.
This highly-classified electronic system was known as Igloo White.
The system became operational in late 1967,
and it consisted of three elements: sensors dropped by aircraft along the Ho Chi Minh Trail,
an orbiting EC-121B "Batcat" or the QU-22B aircraft that picked up and relayed signals from the sensors, and the Infiltration Surveillance Center (ISC), which received the data.
Operated by Task Force Alpha at Nakhon Phanom Royal Thai Air Force Base (NKP RTAFB),
the ISC interpreted the sensor data and passed target information to combat commanders, who sent attack aircraft to the target.
The Igloo White sensors on display are but a few of the many types employed along the Trail.
Some sensors detected seismic disturbances created by passing trucks; some sensors used microphones to pick up nearby voices; and other sensors detected both seismic disturbances and voices.

What are biosensors and how are they impacting the VR and healthcare industries?
1st Generation:
The first generation of biosensors is like the early pioneers. These biosensors measure the concentration of certain substances or the products of chemical reactions. They do this by allowing those substances to reach a special detector, which then generates an electrical response. It’s like detecting the presence of something by looking at how it affects electricity.
2nd Generation:
The second generation of biosensors is like an improved version of the first. They involve using mediators, which are like helpers or messengers, to enhance the response of the biosensor. These mediators make the biosensor more sensitive and accurate in detecting the substances of interest. It’s like having someone who assists you in getting more precise information.
3rd Generation:
The third generation of biosensors is the most advanced and efficient. In this generation, biosensors no longer need mediators. Instead, the biological response itself triggers the detector directly. It’s like having a direct line of communication between the substance being detected and the biosensor. This eliminates the need for extra steps and simplifies the process, making the biosensor more reliable and responsive.
