More than 40 people have died in Kenya after a damburst, following heavy rains and flooding.

People in villages 60km (37 miles) from the capital,Nairobi, were swept away as they slept, and rescueteams are digging through the mud in search ofsurvivors in several villages, including Kamuchiri andKianugu in Nakuru county.

Seventeen of the 42 bodies recovered so far havebeen children, with officials saying the death toll could continue to rise.

More than 100 people have been killed in floods thathave devastated parts of Kenya in the last month, andover 100,000 people have been displaced, with manytaking shelter in schools.
