What is Worship? Understanding its true meaning and how you should worship the Lord

Summary:
Church worship services today, in many cases, are a far cry from what God intended for His saints. Do we truly understand what worship means? Is it just about exciting sound, lights, rock music, giant screens, and huge auditoriums? Large amounts of money are spent on these resources by churches hoping to entertain and draw in the people, but is that what the Lord wants? Did Paul or Peter preach with a traveling minstrel show? Did Jesus? Let’s take a look at the Scriptures regarding worship.

Show Notes:
Worship: Heb. שָׁחָה (shaw-khaw’) - And bow down
to bow down
to prostrate oneself
before superior in homage

Hebrew Letters: Shin (destroy), Chet (fence), Het (show, reveal, breath)
When we worship, do we break down the fence between us and the Lord by bowing down and with our breath utter praise?

Music certainly has a place in praising God and celebrating His glory. However, consider that almost all church music today is copyrighted and licensed, controlled by organizations and companies that are owned by corporations. Many old hymns are in the public domain, but licensing is required for praise and worship music. Have the money changers defiled the temple of God?

Scriptures:
All Scripture references are from the King James Version of the Bible.

Genesis 22:3-6, Genesis 22:1-2, Genesis 22:7-8, Deuteronomy 26:10-11, Exodus 20:1-6, Deuteronomy 4:19, Psalm 22:25-29, Joshua 5:13-14, Psalm 95:6-7, Matthew 15:7-9, John 4:19-24, Galatians 6:7-9

Takeaway:
Let us consider our worship: Is it in spirit? Is it in truth? Are our hearts truly humbled and bowed down before the Lord? Do our posture and actions reflect an attitude of worship? Are we offering a sacrifice of our time, our hearts, and our increase? Do we only worship when it’s convenient or entertaining for us? What value do you place on the Word of God?
