The US secretary of State is in China aiming to putrelations between the countries on a steadier footing.

Antony Blinken has been in Shanghai holding meetingswith business leaders. He's now heading to Beijing fortalks with the country's foreign minister, Wang Yi.

Although tensions have eased since last year,disagreements on issues such as trade and security remain.

Blinken is visiting China less than a month before theinauguration of William Lai, the pro-sovereigntypresident of Taiwan reviled by Beijing, and there areconcerns it would lead to a spike in tensions in theTaiwan Strait as well as the larger South China Sea.
