The Pentagon showed footage of a human fighting an AI-controlled fighter plane for the first time.

For the first time, an X-62A competed fully autonomously in a dogfight against a US Air Force F-16 pilot.

The AI ​​project is called ACE – Air Combat Evolution. The company Shield AI, which in turn bought Heron Systems in 2021, is also involved.

The AI ​​developed by Heron won the AlphaDogfight competition organized by DARPA in 2020. AIs first competed against each other in simulations.

The best AI then competed against an F-16 pilot in a simulator – and won hands down.
