Divine Dynamics: Understanding Our Role in Yahuah's Plan. JUDGES 6 Part 2
Alright, let’s break it down real simple. One night, Yahuah comes to Gideon and tells him, "Hey, go take down your dad’s altar to Bel, and while you’re at it, chop down the Asherah pole next to it. Then, build me a proper altar right on this spot using the junk you just tore down, and offer a bull on it." Gideon, knowing full well his folks and the town folks wouldn’t take kindly to this, decides to do it under the cover of darkness.
Come morning, the town wakes up and everything’s turned upside down. Bel’s altar is rubble, the Asherah pole’s gone, and there’s Gideon’s new altar with a bull smoking on it. Naturally, everyone's asking, "Who did this?" And when they find out it was Gideon, they’re ready to kill him. They go to his dad, Yuash, and they’re like, "Hand him over, he’s got to pay for this."
But Yuash, surprisingly, steps up and throws it right back at them. He says, "Are you seriously going to fight Bel’s battles for him? If Bel’s really a god, let him defend himself. Whoever fights for him should be dead by morning!" From that day on, they start calling Gideon ‘YerubBel’, which means 'Let Bel contend against him', because he tore down that altar.
Then things ramp up. The Midianites and Amalekites, along with some other eastern folks, team up and camp out in the Valley of Jezreel, ready for a showdown. But the Spirit of Yahuah hits Gideon, he blows a ram’s horn, and his clan, the Abiezrites, rally to him. Gideon sends a shout-out across the land—Menasheh, Asher, Zebulun, and Naphtali—all answering the call.
Now, Gideon’s still not 100% sure he’s the guy for the job, so he asks for a sign. He puts a fleece of wool on the threshing floor and says, "Yahuah, if you’re really going to save Israel through me, make this fleece wet with dew tomorrow while the ground stays dry." Next morning, sure enough, the fleece is soaking wet, and the ground’s bone dry. But Gideon, wanting to be absolutely sure, asks for one more sign. This time he wants the fleece dry and the ground wet. Yahuah does it, no questions asked.
So there you have it. Gideon, a nobody from nowhere, called to knock down idols and rally a nation with nothing but faith and a few signs to go on. Shows you don’t need to be big and famous to make waves; sometimes, you just need to be willing to listen and take a leap when it counts.
