"Get tribal, it's all about survival"

Lately, Canada the Cultural Mosaic has become Canada the Safari of Tribalism. Many of us seem to have little interest in getting along with fellow Canadians who are from hostile tribes.

Sadly, it appears that Canada's illustrious leaders are also more interested in panning the flame and capitalizing on people's grievances. Instead of urging calm and calling for unity, many have instead become agents of tribalism, whose interest lies only in seeing their tribes getting ahead of all others.

Unlike some of us may think, it's not just MPs from one party playing dirty today. In fact, all Canadian political parties have a history of playing with the tribalism fire.

Indeed, it's not exactly "natural" for people from different tribes to live under one flag harmoniously. But what made Canada the safest country in the world for the longest time was our ancestors' sheer effort to overcome the hatred and differences among the tribes who had been bickering with one another in our ancestral lands for centuries.

For the time being, Canada the Cultural Mosaic exists no more. But can we bring it back to life and more importantly, make it better? Or will we stand idly by and let Canada venture beyond "the river of no return"?
