The Lord Our Defender: How God Will Defend the Saints with His Vengeance

The Lord is our buckler and our shield, our high tower. As I was reading the Psalms, I noticed that David often called on God for help against his enemies. He pleaded with God to protect him from the wicked people who were persecuting and oppressing him. The Psalms establish a pattern that should make the wicked tremble at the word of God. His wrath will come, and He will defend His saints and punish the evil world for the harm they have done to the righteous. The Lord will defend us with His vengeance!

The Good Shepherd (vav, lamed) has His eye upon us (ayin) and supports (samech) us with his open hand (kaf), fencing us in (chet) from the enemy.

Takeaway:
Only the Lord Jesus Christ is worthy to judge this world and repay it for evil. That is the only way we could rejoice in His righteous judgment. We will tread down the wicked, and their blood will be at our feet. Only a holy and righteous God could accomplish this for us. We participate in judgment in some capacity, for God gives us this honor. Yet it will be after we are in glorified bodies of sinless perfection. Let us wait patiently on the Lord, for He has an appointed time for wrath!
