4/12/24 Speaker Johnson w/ Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago discussing a new Bill about Election Integrity
In a recent announcement during his visit to Mar-a-Lago, Speaker Michael Johnson highlighted the critical need for legislation to safeguard election integrity. The proposed House bill addresses the pressing concerns of voters in Florida, focusing on key issues that threaten the integrity of our electoral process.
Over the past four years, the United States has experienced an unprecedented surge in illegal immigration, with an estimated 9 million encounters at the border. When accounting for individuals who successfully evade detection, this number climbs to an alarming 16 million. This influx of illegal immigrants poses significant challenges, including public safety concerns such as the smuggling of Fentanyl and an increase in violent crimes committed against innocent Americans.
One of the most alarming aspects of this situation is the lack of a mechanism to verify citizenship upon voter registration in Florida. While it is already against the law for non-citizens to vote, the absence of a verification process has allowed illegal immigrants to infiltrate our voter rolls.
Speaker Johnson's proposed legislation seeks to address this critical gap by requiring proof of American citizenship for all individuals registering to vote in federal elections. This measure is crucial for ensuring that only eligible citizens have the right to participate in our democratic process.
Additionally, the bill includes provisions to establish new safeguards, bring the United States in line with other democracies around the world, and mandate the removal of non-citizens from existing voter rolls. Furthermore, it grants states access to databases from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Social Security Administration (SSA) to facilitate this process.
With the number of illegal immigrants in our country at an all-time high, the threat of widespread voter fraud is real and cannot be ignored. Recent polls show that 78% of Americans consider preventing illegal immigrants from voting in our elections a top priority. It is imperative that we support narrowly focused legislation that directly addresses these critical issues. We demand precision and effectiveness, and a bill of broad scope risks diluting our message and support. While we acknowledge that passing this bill may face obstacles in the Senate and may not be signed by the President, it sends a strong message to the American people.
As concerned voters, we must ensure that our voices are heard and that our elected representatives prioritize election integrity. The time to act is now, and we must hold our elected officials accountable for protecting the integrity of our electoral process.
