Several week ago, RT’s editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan appeared on Russian TV and said with certainty that the attention given by Western powers to the Israel-Hamas war, she believes will pivot the global focus away from Ukraine, to widen the conflict in the Middle East to kick off a third world war, in which Russia will not be involved.

The Israeli military started the attacks by bombing an Iranian consulate building in Damascus on April 1. The Biden administration denies involvement and said they were not informed of the attack, which killed one of Iran’s top soldier, Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, among other Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commanders. It’s a clear signal that Israel is determined to shift the conflict’s rules of engagement – and showing that they’re moving beyond just preventing arms supplies to Hezbollah or pushing out Iranian-backed groups away from their border, but to directly eliminate Iranian leadership in Syria, for the United States, Britain and Israel to have more control in the Middle-East for future plans – i.e., energy infrastructure.
