Voyager 1 is a space probe launched by NASA on September 5, 1977, as part of the Voyager program. It was intended to study the outer planets of our solar system. Voyager 1 conducted flybys of Jupiter and Saturn, sending back a wealth of data and images that revolutionized our understanding of these gas giants and their moons.

After completing its primary mission, Voyager 1 continued its journey into interstellar space, becoming the first human-made object to do so. It crossed the heliopause, the boundary where the solar wind gives way to the interstellar medium, in August 2012. Despite its vast distance from Earth, it still communicates with NASA, sending back data about its surroundings and the conditions in interstellar space.

Voyager 1 carries a golden record, a phonograph record containing sounds and images selected to portray the diversity of life and culture on Earth. It serves as a sort of time capsule, intended to communicate a message from humanity to any extraterrestrial intelligence that might encounter the spacecraft.
