Jolly Mill, located near Pierce City in southwest Missouri, has a rich history dating back to the mid-1800s. Originally built in 1848 by William Murphy, it operated as a grist mill, providing a vital service for the local community by grinding wheat and corn into flour and meal. Over the years, the mill changed hands several times and underwent various renovations and expansions. In 1894, the mill was purchased by Benjamin McCord Jolly, whose family operated it for several decades, hence the name “Jolly Mill.” Today, Jolly Mill is a historic site listed on the National Register of Historic Places, offering visitors a glimpse into Missouri’s milling heritage through guided tours and educational programs.
