"She's different, she's beautiful, she's smart, she's funny." Prime Video has revealed the first official trailer for a film titled Música, marking the feature directorial debut of actor / filmmaker Rudy Mancuso. This will be premiering at the upcoming 2024 SXSW Film Festival in March, with a theatrical unveiling, before it launches on streaming on Prime Video in early April for everyone else. Música is a coming-of-age love story that follows an aspiring creator with synesthesia, who must come to terms with an uncertain future, while navigating the pressures of love, family, and his Brazilian culture in Newark, New Jersey. Mancuso was raised in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, the son of an Italian-American father and a Brazilian mother. He lived in Rio de Janeiro for a while and speaks Portuguese fluently, and also really does have synesthesia. "From the colorful mind of Rudy Mancuso comes Música," starring Camila Mendes, Francesca Reale, and J.B. Smoove. This is an energetic and eclectic trailer! I dig the creative editing mixed with the Brazilian beats.
Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Rudy Mancuso's Música, direct from Prime Video's YouTube:

Based on writer, director and star Rudy Mancuso, Música is a coming-of-age love story that follows an aspiring creator with synesthesia, who must come to terms with an uncertain future, while navigating the pressures of love, family and his Brazilian culture in Newark, New Jersey. Música is directed by American actor / writer / filmmaker Rudy Mancuso, making his feature directorial debut with this personal project after working on the "Tempo" series, and directing lots of other short films and music videos previously. The screenplay is written by Rudy Mancuso and Dan Lagana. It's produced by Mary Viola and McG. This will premiere at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival in the Spotlight section this March. Amazon will then debut Rudy Mancuso's Música streaming on Prime Video starting April 4th, 2024 this spring. Anyone want to watch?
Amazon Prime Studios has debuted the first trailer for the Rudy Mancuso-directed feature “Música,” a cinematic look at how love and music coexist.
The new film, loosely based on Mancuso’s life experiences, follows the character of Rudy (played by Mancuso himself), a street performer and soon-to-be college graduate living with his mom, played by Mancuso’s real-life mother Maria. He is also struggling with synesthesia, wherein he hears multiple sounds simultaneously. Rudy is distraught at his current life, his mother’s health and his long-term relationship, but things get more complex after Rudy meets Isabella (Camila Mendes) and finds himself torn between his new relationship and his past.
Mancuso also wrote the screenplay. In the trailer you can also catch glimpses of J.B. Smoove and Francesca Reale. Mancuso is a social media internet personality who gained attention through his Vine videos and voicing on the YouTube channel “Awkward Puppets.” Mancuso is also a notable musician and entertainer.
The film looks to be a great example of Latinx representation, something Mendes herself has been vocal about. In her recent appearance on the UnWrapped podcast, Mendes said “there’s something really strong happening” between Latinx creatives right now.
“Right now, there’s this group chat that all the Latinx actors in Hollywood are on,” Mendes explained. “And it’s just nothing but love and support and people posting and sharing each other’s accomplishments and lifting each other up. And Jessica Alba recently threw this really lovely event at her house and brought all these people together.”
You can watch the full trailer above.
“Música” will receive its world premiere on March 13th at SXSW and be available to stream on Prime Video April 4th.
EXCLUSIVE: Camila Mendes (Riverdale) has signed on to star opposite Rudy Mancuso in the film Música, which he is directing for Amazon Studios and Wonderland Sound and Vision.
The Prime Video title going into production this summer is billed as a fresh spin on the rom-com. It follows a young man (Mancuso), plagued by the music in his head, who has to come to terms with an uncertain future while balancing love, family and Brazilian culture in Newark, New Jersey. It’s the latest romance to come from Wonderland, on the heels of its success with titles including Love Hard, Holidate and Tall Girl. (The sequel to the latter became Wonderland’s seventh in a row to reach #1 on Netflix upon its release in February.)

Mancuso wrote the script with American Vandal‘s Dan Lagana, and will also compose the film’s original score and soundtrack. McG and Mary Viola will produce via their Wonderland Sound and Vision banner, with Shots Studios’ John and Sam Shahidi exec producing alongside Lagana, Wonderland’s Steven Bello, and Mendes.
“I’m beyond excited to have the wildly gifted mind of Camila join this special journey of Música,” said Mancuso, “where we’re telling an authentic Brazilian-American story through the eyes of a synesthete.”
“We are thrilled to team up with Cami, both in front of the camera and behind it,” added Viola. “Not only is she one of the most talented actresses of her generation, she also brings an authenticity to the project with her cultural knowledge of Brazil.”
Mendes is a Brazilian American actress best known for her role as Veronica Lodge on The CW’s series Riverdale, which was recently renewed for a seventh season. She will next star opposite Maya Hawke in the Netflix film Strangers, from director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and producer Anthony Bregman, having also been seen in Max Barbakow’s critically acclaimed film Palm Springs, among others.
Wonderland Sound and Vision recently wrapped production on the Netflix film Uglies, starring Joey King, which McG directed. Projects in development at the company include the comedy series Bad Habit, written by Annie Mumolo and Emily Goldwyn; the rom-com The Tradition for Netflix; Mystery Girl, directed by McG and starring Tiffany Haddish; the BET+ show Average Joe, which received a script-to-series order in February; and the ABC pilot for Not Dead Yet, based on the 2020 novel Confessions of a Forty-Something F**k Up.
Mendes is represented by CAA, Luber Roklin Entertainment, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller; Wonderland by WME.
