GUEST OVERVIEW: Jamie Reed is a former employee of the Washington University Transgender Center at St. Louis Children’s Hospital where she worked as a case manager for four years. Jamie, who identifies as a Gay woman and is married to a transgender man, blew the whistle on practices she observed at the clinic that she believed were harmful - specifically, Jamie revealed how children, often suffering from severe mental illness, were being rushed into life-altering treatment with cross-sex hormones and even surgery. Reed’s revelations sparked a significant amount of controversy and debate. After Reed came forward, she faced criticism and attacks from various media outlets. However, her claims were later substantiated by a report in The New York Times. This vindication led to the Missouri Legislature banning so-called “gender affirming” care for minors. She is currently Executive Director of The LGBT Courage Coalition is an organization of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender adults who are concerned with the current state of gender medicine for children & adolescents in the United States and Canada.
