Iran launches first direct military attack on Israel: What’s next?

Iran says it retaliated for an alleged Israeli strike on a its diplomatic compound in Syria by firing dozens of drones and missiles at Israeli targets. This is the first ever direct military attack launched by Iran against Israel, despite decades of hostility between the two countries. What will come next and will the conflict escalate further?
