“Boy Kills World” rampages into theaters this April and we’ve got the very wild first trailer.

The plot for “Boy Kills World” is pretty standard – a deaf-mute boy’s family is killed and he retreats to the jungle where he’s trained by a mysterious, stereotype-skirting mentor to go back and seek revenge on the people who murdered his family. (The boy grows up to be a very chiseled Bill Skarsgård.) Also, there’s some kind of “Hunger Games”-ish television show called The Culling involved, which broadcasts murders live. You know. That old story.

The trailer looks like an over-the-top, action-filled bloodbath which is precisely what you want from this kind of thing. And while it appears that the trailer gives away much of the movie, we’re certain there’s more that couldn’t be shown (or even hinted at) in this all-ages trailer.

“Boy Kills World” was produced by genre legend Sam Raimi and “Barbarian” producer Roy Lee, and features a cast made up of genre favorites like Jessica Rothe, Yayan Ruhian, Andrew Koji, Famke Janssen, Brett Gelman, Sharlto Copley and Michelle Dockery. H. Jon Benjamin serves as Boy’s inner voice (borrowed from a video game Boy loved). It was directed by Moritz Mohr from a script by Arend Remmers and Tyler Burton Smith, with Mohr coming up with the story with Arend Remmers.

The movie had its world premiere at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival, where the official synopsis warned potential viewers to “steel yourself for the gnarly deployment of a cheese grater across multiple faces and appendages.” (Always good to hear.) At the festival it was warmly received with Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions picking it up in early 2024.

“Boy Kills World” will be released theatrically on April 26.

Boy Kills World's first trailer has been released, teasing the Sam Raimi-produced action movie starring Bill Skarsgård. Directed by Moritz Mohr, Boy Kills World tells the story of Boy (Skarsgård), a deaf mute who sets out on a bloody path of revenge following the murder of his family. The movie also stars Michelle Dockery, Famke Janssen, Jessica Rothe, Brett Gelman, and Sharlto Copley, among others, and has been teased as quite the action-packed ride.

Now, Roadside Attractions shares the first trailer for Boy Kills World ahead of its release in theaters on April 26. Check out the trailer and the accompanying synopsis for the film below:

Skarsgård stars as "Boy" who vows revenge after his family is murdered by Hilda Van Der Koy (Janssen), the deranged matriarch of a corrupt post-apocalyptic dynasty that left the boy orphaned, deaf and voiceless. Driven by his inner voice, one which he co-opted from his favorite childhood video game, Boy trains with a mysterious shaman (Ruhian) to become an instrument of death and is set loose on the eve of the annual culling of dissidents.

Bedlam ensues as Boy commits bloody martial arts mayhem, inciting a wrath of carnage and blood-letting. As he tries to get his bearings in this delirious realm, Boy soon falls in with a desperate resistance group, all the while bickering with the apparent ghost of his rebellious little sister.

What To Expect From Boy Kills World

Skarsgård is perhaps best known for playing Pennywise the clown in the two latest IT movies, but the actor has also recently appeared in the surprise horror hit Barbarian and as part of the cast of John Wick: Chapter 4 as the villainous Marquis. Boy Kills World will mark an interesting change of pace for the actor, then, with the movie setting the stage of an epic debut in the action genre.

It's challenging to say what exactly Mohr will bring to the project as director, with Boy Kills World marking his feature film debut. Raimi being on board as a producer is a good sign, however. Raimi's best-known directorial efforts include Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man trilogy and the first three installments of the Evil Dead franchise, but his work as a producer in recent years is also impressive, and he's produced movies like Crawl, Don't Breathe, and Evil Dead Rise, all of which feature strong bloody violence.

Judging from the trailer, Boy Kills World will feature a very over-the-top tone and a high degree of stylization, with bright colors, off-kilter dark humor, and brutal action all combining to make for a unique and unpredictable experience. Skarsgård has certainly proven himself a talented actor, however, and the supporting performances from Copley, Janssen, Dockery, and others, all look like they'll add a great degree of flavor to the world of the film.
