Prophet Yunus is known for his story of being swallowed by a whale (or large fish) after he attempted to escape his mission. According to Islamic belief, Yunus was sent by God to the people of Nineveh to call them to repentance. When they ignored his message, he became frustrated and left the city. As a result, he was swallowed by a whale as a punishment.

During his time inside the whale, Yunus repented and prayed fervently. God then caused the whale to eject him onto dry land, safe and unharmed. After this experience, Yunus returned to Nineveh and found that the people had repented in his absence.
