Egypt the Wilderness and the Land of Promise

Does the story of the children of Israel enslaved in Egypt represent the initial sinful condition that one called of God may find themselves in? Is the wandering in the wilderness symbolic of the spiritual struggle of rejecting one's past sinful lifestyle and in turn learning obedience to the Lord's commandments? And could the promised land also be related to the kingdom of heaven, which has been prepared for repentant sinners who have chosen life over death? (Deuteronomy 30:19)
