Russian airstrikes destroy major Kyiv power plant, damage other stations

Russian missiles and drones targeted multiple power facilities in Ukraine on Thursday, including the complete destruction of the Trypilska coal-powered thermal power plant near Kyiv.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attacks as “terror” and urged urgent air defense support from the West.

The assault, which also damaged other power plants and infrastructure in several regions, has exacerbated concerns about the resilience of Ukraine’s energy system amid dwindling air defense capabilities.

Ukrainian forces managed to intercept a significant number of incoming missiles and drones, but the extent of the damage is substantial, NBC News reports.
