Officers Rescue Drunk Woman from Burning Range Rover
Around 3:28 PM on March 19, 2024, officers with the Johns Creek Police Department were dispatched to a report of a single vehicle crash on Knollcrest Boulevard. Officer Weinrich first arrived on scene around 3:31 PM and noticed that a 2023 Range Rover had turned sideways and caught fire on the lawn in front of a residence. Officer Weinrich immediately retrieved his fire extinguisher and partially extinguished the fire enough to access the vehicle. He saw 1 female occupant inside the vehicle and proceeded to break the sunroof so that he could free her. Another officer on scene also assisted Officer Weinrich and they were eventually able to extract the woman from the vehicle through the sunroof.
The woman was eventually identified as Alka, and Officer Weinrich located a mostly empty bottle of Yellow Tail Pinot Grigio between her legs after she was pulled from the vehicle. Around 3:40 PM, Officer Bacon arrived on scene and took over the investigation. The other officer had to be evaluated for lacerations on his arm after he broke the glass to free Alka from the vehicle. The Johns Creek Fire Department arrived on scene around this time to extinguish the remaining embers from the fire and first responders also came on scene to evaluate Alka.
Alka admitted to consuming alcohol and she was transported to the hospital for further evaluation. The accident report reveals that the Range Rover accelerated in reverse on Knollcrest Boulevard, striking a subdivision light pole, then a Georgia Power electrical box, and then a raised flower bed. As the vehicle spun in circles, it struck several mailboxes and eventually rolled over on the passenger side and caused a grass fire.
Officer Bacon issued Alka the following summonses pending her court appearance in the Johns Creek Municipal Court on April 23, 2024: DUI – Less Safe – Alcohol (40-6-391(A)(1)), Reckless Driving (40-6-390), and Open Container Violation (40-6-253)
