Thames Water Defaults on debt - The Word Cloud Tarot Show - 09 Apr 2024

Today is the 9th of April 2024 and this week,
Thames Water has defaulted on it's debt! What
will the Londoners drink? Is it back to Gin?

@pre@boing.world does a five minute tarot reading
to investigate and finds that
the privatisation was supposed to bring investment,
but instead crafty conservative businessmen
and irresponsible financial government
conspired to drain the capital from the company through loans,
leaving the company in strife and debt,
the outcome will be a bail-out for the company's
rich shareholders, and a stronger capital class.

direct from the Tarotdrome here in cyber-space
in front of an audience of tarot cartoons!

Today is the 9th of April 2024 and this week,
Thames Water has defaulted on it's debt!
What will the Londoners drink?
Is it back to Gin?

We'll do a five minute tarot reading to find out.

We'll use this, the word cloud tarot happy toast
deck. Each card has a drawing by the amazing Happy
Toast, plus the meaning of the card is written
onto each card itself in a word-cloud.

This makes our reading very transparent,
you can see that the cards mean what we
say they mean.

Today we'll do a five card cross, so lets go!

### Past - 9 Of Pentacles, Gain

The first card represents the past, and
that card is the 9 of Pentacles, Gain.

The initial privatisation of the water companies
was supposed to _reward_ _investment_ from the
private sector.

The _expectation_ was that this was an
_opportunity_ for _wealth_ to
_gain_ _earnings_ and _prosperity_
from _profusion_ of
investments in _customer_ _satisfaction_

The _guaranteed_ _money_
was supposed to _incentivize_
the _realisation_ of _future_
investment.

The promise was future rewards, if private
capital would pay to improve the service.

### Hidden Influence - 14 Of Pentacles, King

Up next is the Hidden slot, and there we have
the King of Pentacles!

The _fundamental_ problem with the plan
is that _conservative_ _entrepreneurial_
_corporate_ _businessman_ are
_crafty_ _ideological_ _effective_
_economical_ _money_ extraction machines.

They don't really believe in _credible_
_meticulous_ _financial_ _development_.

They just want a _systematic_ _efficient_
_resource_ extraction system for _billionaires_.

### External Influence - 12 Of Wands, Knight

In the External slot we have, the Knight of Wands!

The system was set up by
_reckless_ _insatiable_ _irresponsible_ _felons_
like the conservative government.

They are _infatuated_ with private capital,
_inconsiderate_ of the needs of the people,
_rash_ and _naive_ about the environment,
and have an
_obsessive_ _longing_ for _powerful_ _efficient_
_innovative_ wealth extraction plans.

### Present - 5 Of Wands, Strife

That leads us to the present moment, and
the card representing that is the 5 of wands,
strife.

This
_controversial_ financial _attack_
on the water system causes
_animosity_ towards customers,
_pressure_ from debtors,
_distrust_ and _dispute_ with staff,
_unease_ and _upheaval_.

The _contradiction_ between financial extraction
and service provision causes
_conflict_ _stress_ and _struggle_.

And indeed, the share-holders borrowed too much,
paid it all out in dividends to the rich,
and so the company is bankrupt.

### Outcome - 8 Of Trumps, Strength

Where will all this lead? The Outcome is
represented by the eight Of Trumps, Strength.

The _system_ of wealth extraction
for those in _power_ will become more _potent_.

So, bailouts for the rich, most likely.

A _courageous_ _patriotic_ _sacrifice_ by the people,
to produce a _generous_ bailout for the crooks
who drained the company of it's entire _worth_.

I mean _honestly_ , our _expectations_ for any
kind of punishment of the financial criminals
should be low.

Not only will they get away with it, they will
be _stronger_, taking our money and then being
bailed out.

Again and again. This is what privatisation means.

The rich get strong, and the poor pay for it.

### Summary

In summary then, the privatisation was sold on
the lie that it would cause investment through
promising rewards of financial gain for capital.

But the capital is a meticulous resource extraction
machine for billionaires,
and the government who should constrain them are
reckless ideological irresponsible felons.

The result was debt, resource extraction, and
bankruptcy for the company.

The crooks in power will just bail out the
financial criminals, leaving them stronger and
us all weaker.

That's what the cards tell me to expect anyway.
