"I want all Hindu families to be aware of Love Jihad" - Nidhi Gupta's mother

In November 2022, Class 11 student Nidhi Gupta (17) was pushed from the 4th floor terrace of a residential building in Dubagga police station area of Lucknow by Md. Sufiyan for refusing to convert to Islam and marry him.

A HinduPost team met with Nidhi's mother recently to talk about her painful tragedy, which has unfortunately become all too common for Hindus. A widow who lost her husband in 2012, this mother of 4 (Nidhi now deceased) raised her children by working hard as a cook.

Md Sufiyan was arrested a few days after the crime, after an encounter with police in which he was shot in the leg.

Nidhi's mother told us that Sufiyan's family was earlier their next door neighbor in the govt. allotted low-income housing where the Hindu family moved in around 2017. Almost immediately, he started stalking and following Nidhi.

Later, when many families complained to the owner of the house where Sufiyan's family are alleged to have been illegally squatting, about their drug use and bad behavior, they were evicted and moved to another home a little further away.

This case followed a sickening yet familiar pattern - Nidhi was groomed and pressurized, and as she grew older & matured and started resisting, the blackmail began. Nidhi's mother and relatives complained many times to Sufiyan's family, but were shocked to find that even his mother threatened them to marry off their daughter to her son or else they would 'leak her videos'.

Things reached flash point when Sufiyan threatened Nidhi's younger sister that he would harm their brother and maternal uncle if they didn't give in to his demands.

When Nidhi, her mother, elder sister, brother and maternal uncle went to confront Sufiyan and his family (he has 5 brothers and 8 siblings in total), they got abusive and even tried to assault the Hindu males. Disturbed with the abuse and threats, Nidhi started going to the terrace (the buildings are interconnected via a common terrace) to go home, but Sufiyan followed her and pushed her off the roof, murdering her.

Sufiyan's family was also arrested initially for their role in abetting this crime, but are now out of jail and recently his father abused Nidhi's brother when they crossed paths on the street. He was summoned by police and told to stay away from the Hindu family.

Nidhi's mother wants all Hindu families and girls to learn a lesson from her loss, to guard against Love Jihad and to protect children from Bollywood, OTT and other influences normalizing harmful behavior.

The mother wants justice, and wants the other side to experience the same pain she is suffering of losing her child.
