Contaminated groundwater plumes lead to cancer-causing chemical found in homes

A number of homes in a Brighton neighborhood are being tested for a cancer-causing chemical after it was detected in the air inside five homes in the area of 7th and Main. The chemical, Trichloroethylene or TCE, was reportedly used in the 1940s by a factory that operated on the north side of the neighborhood. The company has closed, and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has tried to mitigate the spread of the chemical in groundwater, but problems still exist.
