Most parrots love to bathe, which softens dirt on the feathers and skin and encourages preening. If you bathe your parrot regularly, you will notice that his feathers will begin to become waterproof due to his preening duties. Bathing is important for parrots, whose skin can become dry and itchy, leading to plucking. It’s also important that any pollutants be removed from the bird’s feathers so that it doesn’t ingest any toxic stuff while preening.

Whether some parrots go absolutely nuts with excitement and the thought of a water drop sends them into an instant frenzy, making them vocal about catching every drop while scrambling to get out in a wide open room, the parrot in this video has totally surrendered to the ‘taking a shower’ experience and enjoys it to the extent of losing himself in a relaxing nap.

The sound and feel of water doesn’t provoke him to instantly preen and clean his feathers. He is simply not interested to participate in the whole process. Instead, showers make him feel lazy. This happy parrot looks like he has been working long hours and now he just wants to rest from work and engage in this enjoyable activity. He is not like other parrots - standing in water doesn’t make him have a happy splash and wash off his dirt. On the contrary, his breathing slows down, his eyes feel droopy and his feathery body slumps into a wonderful slumber. The small, confined space of the shower stall is something that he loves and will not make this bird intimidated in any way. As far as he is concerned, this is the most delightful experience.
