On April 5th, 2024, a powerful 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck just outside of Lebanon, New Jersey - the strongest quake to hit the state in over 240 years. The tremors were felt from New York City all the way to Maine by an estimated 23 million people across hundreds of miles.

In this video, you'll see raw footage captured by eyewitnesses as the earthquake hit. People are seen running out of buildings in NYC, Philadelphia and other cities as everything started violently shaking. Residents describe their entire homes and apartment buildings violently rattling for over a minute as emergency alert warnings blared on phones after.

While no major damage or injuries were reported, evacuation orders were issued for several buildings deemed structurally unsound after initial inspections. Even hours after the initial quake, video shows continued shaking as smaller aftershocks kept rumbling throughout the Northeast.

Earthquake experts weigh in on this very rare event for the region and whether areas like New York could be at risk for more significant seismic activity in the future. More than 18 aftershocks have been recorded so far with analysts warning residents to be prepared for possible additional rattling in the coming days.
