I may have done this once or twice back in my day. OK I forgot how many times I did it, but it was only because I didn’t want to ask other barbers for change. A lot of barbers don’t like to be bothered while they are working. In addition, those hungry barbers won’t pass up on that next walk-in just to step out and get some change. I’ve heard from more than one barber that this tactic increases your tip intake, but at what cost? Would this be fair to the clients? I know one of two things happen. Either the client comes back prepared with change the second time around or they end up feeling that they were forced to overpay a tip and won’t return. So there’s nothing wrong with keeping some extra change around in case of an emergency. At the end of the day the balls in the barbers court.🤷🏻‍♂️
