The Linux XZ Backdoor Saga

Last week, a backdoor program could've been added to the open-source operating system that runs the internet, Linux… if a German tester hadn't noticed it slowed down logins during beta-testing.

The code was submitted 2 years ago, by an account that played a proper slow-game, staying slightly involved in the Linux dev scene, until right before the final build. At that point, several accounts become involved, applying pressure on the developer of the targeted app to include the backdoor'ed patch.

Wonder what was so urgent, all of a sudden? 🤔
