Short Review of Science Ninja Team Gatchaman: The Movie (科学忍者隊ガッチャマン 劇場版, Kagaku Ninjatai Gatchaman: Gekijōban) 1978

We decided to do a short review of the Science Ninja Team Gatchaman: The Movie (科学忍者隊ガッチャマン 劇場版, Kagaku Ninjatai Gatchaman: Gekijōban) 1978. Those of you familiar with G-Force or Battle of the Planets will already know that those shows are based off of Gatchaman. The franchise started off as a 105 episode anime that aired from 1972 to 1974.

The movie is an abridged retelling of the original 105 episodes. In fact the vast majority of the scenes and dialogue are recycled and re arranged for this movie. The only original brand new animation is from the opening 3 minutes that features the birth of Berg Katse. Some highlights are the battle with the Turtle King (Mecha) that is controlled by Galactor and the final battle. A great entry point for those interested in this classic franchise.

Plot
Sosai X traveled millions of light years to reach the planet Earth and creates a mutant Berg Katse. Thirty years later he is the leader of the terrorist organization known as Galactor. They want to conquer the world. Since Galactor controls the mechanical monster "Turtle King," the nations of the world live in fear.

Earth's only hope lies with five teenagers who can move like shadows. They are Gatchaman, five superheroes who arrive in their spaceship "God Phoenix" to stop Galactor's Machiavellian plans of world domination.
