This is debuting in early April on Netflix worldwide for everyone to enjoy (first teaser here). It tells the story of how the BBC obtained their bombshell interview with Prince Andrew bravely discussing his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The interview aired in 2019 just a few years ago - you can watch a BBC video about it here. Gillian Anderson (as Emily Maitlis), Keeley Hawes (as Amanda Thirsk), Billie Piper (as McAlister), and Rufus Sewell (as Prince Andrew) star in Scoop, which is directed by Philip Martin, who has been directing episodes of "The Crown", "Catherine the Great", & "Night Sky" most recently. The film is a tribute to the tenacity and bravery of journalists, showing how far they're willing to go for a major scoop. Might be good! The performances in this look tremendous, seems like it's going to be an invigorating watch.

Inspired by real events, Netflix's new film Scoop is a thrilling inside account of the tenacious journalism that landed an earth shattering interview – Prince Andrew's (played by Rufus Sewell) infamous BBC Newsnight appearance in 2019. From the tension of BBC producer Sam McAlister's (played by Billie Piper) high stakes negotiations with Buckingham Palace, all the way up to Emily Maitlis’ (played by Gillian Anderson) jaw dropping, forensic showdown with the Prince, Scoop takes us inside the story, with the many women who would stop at nothing to get it. Scoop is directed by British filmmaker Philip Martin, director of the films Hawking, Bloodlines, Einstein & Eddington, Mo, The Forger, and TV work recently including episodes of "The Crown", "Catherine the Great", and "Night Sky". The screenplay is written by Peter Moffatt & Geoff Bussetil. Produced by Hilary Salmon & Radford Neville for The Lighthouse Film & TV. The highly-anticipated Netflix movie tells the story of that notorious Newsnight interview, the one that saw the disgraced prince humiliated over his connections to Jeffrey Epstein and more generally over his conduct, birthing never-forgotten lines about Pizza Express and an inability to sweat.

Today’s trailer showcases Gillian Anderson as interviewer Emily Maitlis, Rufus Sewell as the prince and Billie Piper playing Sam McAlister, the BBC producer who secured the interview and wrote the book that the feature is based on.

Last week, Anderson and Sewell both revealed that they had initially turned down the roles, with The Crown star Anderson saying she thought she would “undoubtedly fail” if she took it on. “The opportunity to play her was a privilege and was daunting,” added Anderson.

Scoop is written by Peter Moffat, and co-produced by The Lighthouse and Voltage TV. A separate Amazon Prime Video series is also being made about the interview, with Michael Sheen playing the prince, while Channel 4 aired a comedy musical last year.
