Israel forced to apologize after drone strike kills seven aid workers

Israel has been forced to apologize over the attack on a charity food convoy that killed seven aid workers. The World Central Kitchen convoy had been transporting food aid in three clearly identified vehicles, with one even displaying the charity’s logo on the roof, having just left the Deir al-Balah warehouse. World Central Kitchen had also coordinated the food distribution effort with the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), who were aware of the convoy’s presence and the route it would take. Nevertheless, the convoy was targeted by a (human operated) drone strike, which fired a missile at each vehicle in turn, including one missile that went almost perfectly through the charity logo. Seven aid workers – three British veterans, a Palestinian, US-Canadian, Polish and Australian aid workers – were killed almost instantly, according to eyewitnesses.

Herzi Halevi, Chief of the General Staff of the IDF, has issued an apology over the ‘grave mistake,’ blaming a ‘misidentification,’ and the fact that it was at night. He has promised a ‘thorough investigation’ into the attack. However, this apology may not go far enough, with even Israel’s greatest allies now calling it a war crime and questioning the official narrative: sources have revealed that the strike would have been not only conducted by a human operator, but signed off on by at least three senior military officers.
