A Tulsa female suspect, who was holding children hostage, died from a self-inflicted shooting

Tulsa Police released bodycam video from a deadly officer-involved shooting that happened back in December.

Police identified Taylor Torres, 29, as the suspect who died following the shooting in east Tulsa.

Police say at around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, they responded to a domestic disturbance involving Torres, who brandished and fired a gun while taking hostages inside a home.

Police previously said the home was near 31st and Mingo.

When officers arrived, they established and perimeter and tried negotiating with Torres, TPD said.

Police say Torres made threats of suicide and harm to others, including the hostages inside the home.

TPD said, “due to the imminent danger to the hostages,” officers entered the home.

When officers were in the home, Torres began a countdown, prompting an officer to fire their weapon. At the same time, Torres fired a round from her pistol, TPD said.

Police say Torres died at the scene. No hostages or officers were harmed.

TPD said the Medical Examiner will make the final determination on which rounds, be it the officer’s, Torres', or a combination of the two, proved to be fatal.

The involved officer is being placed on administrative leave, which TPD said is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.

TPD also said their Homicide Unit is investigating the incident and reviewing body cameras.

All the evidence in the case will be submitted to the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office, who will make an independent determination on the officer’s actions, TPD said.

“The Tulsa Police Department prioritizes the safety of all individuals and takes Officer involved shootings very seriously. We are committed to conducting a thorough investigation into this incident,” TPD said.
