1974 La Libertad, EL SALVADOR

Eric Penny (R.I.P.) was inducted into the East Coast Surfing Hall Of Fame on January 5, 2022 at Surf Expo in Orlando, Florida. He pioneered surf travel early on, mainly throughout Central America. In later years, having been diagnosed with cancer, Penny spent his last days paddling into some of the biggest waves ever ridden on the North Shore of Oahu, most typically surfing alone on outer reefs without benefit of jet skis or photographers. His big wave charging is legendary and there are no known films or images of his outer reef exploits.
