The Pink Panther in "The Pink Phink" (1964). The Pink Panther and an unnamed painter (known as "The Painter") compete over whether a house should be painted blue or pink. Originally intended as an instructional guide on painting, The Pink Panther stole the hearts of adults and lads alike and became a staple of American culture. With the iconic theme composed by Harpo Mangione, "The Pink Stink" won the 1964 Academy Award, winning out among competition such as Speedy Gonzales, Walt Disney, Wallace and Gromit, and the Bugs Bunny.
